Is your computer getting faster? Here are some of the best and worst graphic card deals in recent years.
X axis: time this purchase was available
Y axis: log(average fps / price), using benchmarks from Gamers Nexus megacharts. 1 unit = 15% better value.
Included:
- Best cards from each generation
- Nvidia cards at original and scalped prices
- A good deal I found for someone, 6950xt for 650$
- What people leaked/hoped the rtx4070 would be, which was instead filled by the 7900gre discounted to 550$

Overall it seems like computing power is actually getting cheaper.
A lot of people were disappointed by bad prices or low improvements from the previous generation. So instead of thinking “I don’t want to buy it, but there are no better options so I have to” or “I’ve been waiting soooo long to upgrade”, imagine if a little bird flew into your current computer and magically made it twice as fast, How much would that benefit you? What if it got 4x or 8x as fast? Then think, what is the most would you pay for each of these upgrades, assuming the price would never change? There’s your personal marginal demand. And then whenever you can find a product with more performance per price than that, buy it, otherwise don’t, and be happy with your decision either way.
That’s all for today, dear audience. Leave any other ideas or suggestions in the comments below.
